Dancing tots get Wiggling say The Star newspaper.
Wiggletots does exactly what it says on the tin - according to dance teacher Dawn Short.
The Hillsborough-based dance and movement group quite literally gets tots wiggling, in the name of exercise, rhythm, confidence-building and – most importantly – fun.And it seems to be doing the trick.
Less than two years after the group launched in Sheffield, it has been nominated for a national award for ‘Best New Activity for Children’.Dawn, aged 42, who set up the classes specifically to cater for pre-school children, explained: “I wanted to provide classes for under fives that were both fun and relaxed so I set up Wiggletots back in 2011. “I now teach six sessions a week to around 70 children and the classes are really popular.“I’m so thrilled with the nomination. My team and I have worked hard to make Wiggletots fun and different to other local classes – with our Funky Disco Duck class, beautiful fun ballet sessions and Play, Dance and Move groups – and really feel this award really reflects that.
”Wiggletots is one of a number of children’s groups across the country that will now go head-to-head in an online public vote ahead of the ‘What’s On 4 2014 Junior Awards’ final in June.In the meantime, Dawn is already planning to expand Wiggletots sessions, currently run at Wisewood Sports Centre, to nurseries and play centres in Stocksbridge and Ranmoor and Visit whatson4schoolkids.co.uk to vote for Wiggletots.
